This guide serves as a means to obtain the message headers for a handful of popular email clients.

Message headers contain information about email messages that the majority of users are not aware of (including details of the path the message took from sender to recipient) that can often be very helpful in troubleshooting email issues.

Google Apps

1. Log into Google mail
2. Open the message you would like to view the message headers for
3. Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top of the message.
4. Select Show Original

Outlook

1. Open Outlook
2. Open the message you would like to view the message headers for by double-clicking on it
3. Click on File
4. Click on Properties
5. The message header will be visible under Internet Headers 

For Outlook 2007 & previous

1. Open Outlook
2. Open the message you would like to view the message headers for
3. Click View, and select Options…
4. The message header will be visible in a new window
